NEW YORK– The New York Rangers avoided arbitration with Ryan Lindgren on Tuesday, signing the hard-nosed defenseman to a one-year deal.
Lindgren, 26, has become one of New York’s most critical people, skating on the top piece on the blue line alongside 2021 Norris Trophy success Adam Fox. He averaged over 19 days of snow day last winter, therefore over 20 in the finals.
If the Minnesota native and the team ca n’t agree on a contract extension before July 1, he could become an unrestricted free agent the following summer.
Lindgren has skated in 376 NHL regular-season and semifinal game since being drafted 49th in 2016 by Boston. He has spent the entirety of his professional career with New York since the Rangers bought him from the Bruins in 2018.
